Perched atop a 400 foot cliff, the Sahhali Bed & Breakfast on Pender Island

may boast the most spectacular view on the planet. From the two luxury suites and cottage, the fabulous panorama showcases a number of the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, as well as the San Juan Islands of Washington State. Below, contrasted against dark green forests and sparkling blue ocean, gleaming white BC Ferries silently travel the calm straits between the islands.

The scene is peaceful, serene. Tension and stress disappear. The hustle and bustle of busy lives is forgotten as your attention turns to the sights and sounds surrounding you.

Listen for the crack of a twig as a black-tail deer wanders by, watch impressive form of a bald eagle as it soars below you from your clifftop observatory, and spot in the distance the unmistakable sight of a pod of Orcas or Killer Whales headed right toward your telescope.

The suites and cottage are beautifully appointed, carefully designed with your comfort and privacy in mind. The friendliness of your hosts, Michelle & Frank Hiebert, will ensure you instantly feel at ease. Their goal is to make your stay as idyllic as possible. And Sahhali offers all the ingredients.

Pender Island Activities

Pender Island is located in the Gulf of Georgia, just north of the American San Juan Islands, and is easily accessible by ferry from either Vancouver or Victoria, B.C.

Magic Lake Estates is a hub of culture and activity for residents and visitors to North Pender Island. The Disc Golf Course is located in the center of the park, along with playgrounds, kayaks and canoes and a myriad of walking trails. You can learn more about Magic Lake and some of the amenities by visiting the Magic Lake Estates website

Penderites are well known for their community theatre, their arts activities, their fall fair, their crafts and their island grown festivals. For a fully interactive map which includes the locations of some of our galleries as well as personal pages for many of our artists visit Pender Island Creatives.

Disc Golf is a rapidly growing international sport and due to the efforts of a number of dedicated volunteers a lovely course has evolved on Pender.

The Golf Island Disc Park, located in Magic Lake Estates on North Pender Island, B.C., features 27 holes. The front nine holes have the original tone poles while the middle and back nines have chain baskets, installed in 2004. The Pender Islands disc golf course winds its way over and around a rocky hill just to the north of Magic Lake. Take a virtual tour of the disc golf course.

For the traditional golfer, try the Pender Island Golf & Country Club. This 9 hole Gulf Island Jewel offers four elevated tee boxes and affords expansive views of the shots that lie ahead. The course is deceptively challenging, with 6 separate tees for the back nine. Golfing on Pender Island is totally affordable at under $40.00 for 18 holes.

Visit Pender Island Golf for photos and images of the course, location details, course map, rates and more.

The Pender Islands Community Hall hosts an assortment of events: concerts, plays, art exhibitions, markets and fairs. Set at the edge of a unique pine forest next to farmlands, the Community Hall fits beautifully into the Pender Island ambience: warm and welcoming.

The Farmers Market is held every Saturday morning throughout the summer. It’s really popular with the locals so get there early to get your hands to the best goods.

During your visit to North Pender, enjoy the incredible scenery with a Kayak tour from Pender Island Kayak Adventures. Guided tours range from two hours to full day tours with prices ranging from $45.00 per person. It’s known that Orcas will swim quite close to the shoreline during migration months, so make sure you ask Jay, the owner of Pender Island Kayak Adventures, about the best viewing spots.

When you get hungry, we recommend the Pender Island Bakery Cafe at the Driftwood Center or the Pistou Grill for a sampling of local seafood and produce.

The above are just a sample of the many exciting activities and events you can choose to engage in during your visit to our beautiful Island. For more information on upcoming events and happenings, as well as regional news, visit the Pender Island Blog, or Pender Island Information site. You could also check out the Pender Island Handbook for extensive information on visiting and living on Pender Island.

Kayaking, boating, fishing, golfing, tennis, cycling, hiking, birdwatching and wildlife viewing are all part of the Sahhali experience. Frank and Michelle will be happy to arrange for these activities, or assist you in your planning.
