Thetis Island Vineyards were established

   
  The row spacings are 2.8 metres with plant spacings at 1 metre.
   
  The trellising system will be the `Geneva Double Curtain`, a horizontal divided canopy which improves solar exposure. 
   
  The planting and trellising work took ten days to complete and costs  CAN 12,000 for 1800 rootings on three acres of land.The former forest had been cleared, levelled and limed duringsummer 2000 with costs offset by the sale of timber.
   
  Inter-row cropping will be grass grazed by sheep in fall and spring.
   
  Storage and fermentation caves, a winery building, landscaped gardens,sheep and goats, guest cottage, tennis court, swimming pool, lookout tower and tasting rooms will be developed within six years. European cheeses and Mediterranean food will in future be served

 with all wine tasting sessions.

 

Vineyard House and Cottage sits on the vineyard commanding

 a panoramic view south across the red grape terraces.

 The vineyard cottage provides an astounding view from the

natural  sand stone bluff that dominates the landscape

 at the crest of the 10-acre property.

All house guests are entitled to a complimentary wine tasting

 and tennis at the vineyard.

There is an old-world feeling about Vigneti Zanatta that is hard to define. 
 
It’s there in the graceful lines of the vineyard and in the well
 
wornterrazzo patio that looks out over a comfortable  tangle
 
of an overgrown garden.
 
 
Vigneti Zanatta is owned and operated by the Zanatta family,
 
who have been growing grapes and making wine on their
 
Glenora farm for close to four decades but that passion has
 
 become decidedly intense.
 
 No longer just a few vines for the family, the vineyard stretches
 
into the horizon, every year capturing new slopes of the hillside.
 
The 120 acre farm was originally the site of a dairy farm when
 
 the Zanatta’s purchased it in 1958.
 
 Since then, 30 acres have been planted in vines, including
 
 Ortega, Cayuga, Auxerrois, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Nero,
 
 Muscat, Merlot, and Madeleine X Sylvaner.
 
The remainder of the farm is in pasture, hay fields,
 forest and old fruit orchards.

 The Zanatta farm is still very much a working farm.

Although the vineyards are the main production, the

remainder of the farm produces much of the food which

we now serve in our restaurant.

The growing and production of our wine is specifically tailored

to bring out the character of our region, and our particular site.

Vinoteca on the vineyard, our food and wine bar, allows us to

explore the fascinating art of pairing simple country cuisine

to our own wines.

Vinoteca was Ileana Zanatta’s creation.

She took the family’s 1903 farm house, restored it as closely

as possible to it’s original character, added her own unique style

and created an eclectic place to dine or sip your afternoon away.

All the foods served at Vinoteca are created based on the simplicity

of country life, incorporating food that is grown either on the farm

or as local as possible.

There is no greater satisfaction than combining the

 

 flavours of our harvest in both wine and food served

 in a graceful country atmosphere.

 Our farm has been part of us for over 40 years.

 Today, Vinoteca’s ambience and food is influenced by the

 expertise and style of Fatima Da Silva, lending to it a very

international flair.
 
Outside of regular hours, an appointment is required for
 
 wine tasting or a tour of the winery.

Located a short 20-minute drive from Downtown Victoria,

 on the beautiful Saanich Peninsula, Victoria Estate Winery

 is a wonderful place to enjoy a perfectly balanced glass of wine

with friends and family.

The winery features breathtaking views, daily wine tours,

 an authentic Mediterranean Deli with a seasonally inspired

 tapas menu and the only Viticulture Centre on Vancouver Island.

 At 21,000 square feet, many guests are astounded by the

 magnitude of this premier winery.

Well-known wine writer John Schreiner has even hailed it as

 ”one of the five best-designed wineries in British Columbia.”

Victoria Estate Winery is Vancouver Island’s newest winery,

and also its largest, producing a broad range and

 many styles of wine  from Merlot to Pinot.

A prominent feature of the West Coast designed building is the

80-foot-long tasting bar for sampling and retail wine sales, as well

 as the Mediterranean deli with plenty of seating for groups from

 families to corporate outings.

The deli carries a vast tapas menu, and the culinary talents of chef

 John Hall are delightful, plus the wine shop is a design wonder.

Grapes for the winery come from nearby Saanichton

 and the Cowichan Valley.

For the bigger reds, grapes are brought in from the South Okanagan.

Our vineyards, winery and vinegary are located in rural

 Cobble Hill  on Vancouver Island.

 All our wines are grown, produced and bottled right here,

 assuring that they are a true reflection of our local terroir.

 Through meticulous vineyard management, we are able to grow

 grapes of the highest possible quality naturally, without using any

 pesticides and herbicides.

The vineyard was established in 1988 with five acres on a

 gentle south slope planted to meticulously tended vinifera grape

 varieties, including Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Pinot Auxerrois,

Madeleine Sylvaner, Siegerrebe, Schönburger, Ortega and Kerner,

 all protected from predators (deer, bear, raccoons, rabbits and birds)

 by specialty fencing and overhead bird netting. An additional 15 acres

 is currently being planted, the remaining 10 left as a kaleidoscope

 of forest, creek, pond and wildflowers.

 There is clay, heavy in places, over deep limestone and sand,

contributing a uniquely intense flavour profile to our wines.

All our vines are on their own roots.

 Our original 5 acres are virus-free and all the vines for the 15 acre

 expansion are being propagated by Euro Vineyards and

 Nursery (West) Inc. in Saanich using the latest tissue culture

 technology to guarantee freedom from any of the diseases known

 to infect grape vines in North America.

 We have visited our “babies” many times to watch their progress from

 growing tips from our own healthy vines or those selected from

 indexed stock, through the various proliferation stages,

 to rooting in test tubes and finally to being coaxed through the

 remaining stages to prepare them for life at Venturi-Schulze.

We have several viticulture research projects in progress and do not

allow anyone to enter the vineyards without us, as precautions must

 be taken to isolate our site from possible sources of contamination.

How can you try our wines? Because of the small production and

 high demand, we chronically experience short supply, but a good

 selection is usually available at Sooke Harbour House,

the Empress Room and the Wickaninnish Inn on the Island,

 Diva at the Metropolitan Hotel in Vancouver and the

 Bearfoot Bistro in Whistler.

You may also find selected Venturi-Schulze wines at Camille’s in

 Victoria,  Hastings House and House Piccolo on Saltspring Island,

 Nimmo Bay Resort on the west coast of BC and the

 Rimrock Hotel in Banff, Alberta.

We are not open for drop-in tours and tastings,

 but welcome guests by prearranged appointment only.

Garry Oaks Winery is located on a terraced ten-acre vineyard

 carved out of the south-facing gravel slopes overlooking the

 Burgoyne Valley on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada.
 
In 1999, Marcel Mercier and Elaine Kozak left the corporate world
 
  to turn their love of the country and good wine into a way of life.

 They purchased a hundred-year old farm on Salt Spring Island

 and began the long process of converting it from sheep-grazing
 
 to wine-growing.
 
Over the next three years, seven acres were planted to vine,
 
 and a winery built.
 
 A century-old orchard of apple, pear, plum

 and cherry trees was rehabilitated to enhance the beauty of the site

and retain the diversity of its flora.

 A stand of magnificent Garry Oaks was preserved and

 gives the winery estate its name.
 
Garry Oaks seeks to produce premium wines of character and
 
 complexity that are an expression of this unique Gulf Island site,

and its winemakers’ talents. Garry Oaks released its first wines and

opened its tasting room to the public in May, 2003
 
While drawing on long-established traditions, Garry Oaks also
 
 explores new directions in winemaking.

 For example, Garry Oaks grows grape varieties such as Zweigelt

 and Leon Millot, which are new to British Columbia, and is the

 first winery in the province to age wine in Garry oak

 (Oregon White Oak) barrels.

Garry Oaks wines are available through our farmgate winestore

 or by special order, and include Pinot Gris, Blanc de Noir,

 Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir, and Labyrinth,

 our proprietary red wine.

Garry Oaks Vineyard and Winery is located on Salt Spring Island,

 the largest of a string of islands located in the Strait of Georgia

 between the British Columbia mainland

 (the metropolitan Vancouver area)

 and Vancouver Island (the city of Victoria). Salt Spring Island

 can be reached by BC Ferries from Vancouver

 (Tsawwassen terminal), Victoria (Swartz Bay terminal) or

upper Vancouver Island (Crofton terminal).
