Feast of Fields – a gourmet wandering harvest

festival – is FarmFolkCityFolk’s annual fundraising

With a wine glass and linen napkin in hand, you

can taste the very best of BC from chefs, vintners,

brewers, farmers, and food artisans from across

 the province.

Connections are made between producers and

chefs, food producers and consumers, and farm

 folks and city folks.

These connections provide an increased awareness

of and appreciation for local food and agriculture.

Feast of Fields is a gastronomic journey towards

 a sustainable, local food system.

History of Feast of Fields in British Columbia

Feast of Fields is an idea originally crafted by

 renowned chef Michael Standlandter.

As part of the organization “Knives and Forks,”

Michael partnered with Jamie Kennedy to create

an event that aimed to get urbanites out to

 Ontario farms.

In 1994, the Feast of Fields concept crossed the

 country to Vancouver’s FarmFolk/CityFolk Society.

Since 1995, FarmFolk/CityFolk has organized Feast

of Fields events in British Columbia to highlight

the connections between farmers and chefs and

to increase the connections between farm folks

and city folks.

Net proceeds from Feast of Fields fund a portion

 of FarmFolk/CityFolk’s work throughout the

province, year round. For more information

about our work, please visit our website.

Over the years, FarmFolk/CityFolk has also donated

a portion of Feast proceeds to a variety of regional

projects including the Island Chefs’ Collaborative,

the Good Food Box, Malaspina Culinary Program,

Stewards of Irreplaceable Land (SOIL), LifeCycles,

and Pemberton Community Garden, among many,

 many others.

For a few years, we organized a Sea-to-Sky Feast

 of Fields.

In 2006 and 2007 the Sea-to Sky Feast was at

Sturdy’s North Arm Farm in Pemberton and in

2008, it was at Whistler’s Rebagliati Park.

In 2009, we added an Okanagan Feast of Fields to

our fundraising line up, joining our long-running

Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island Feasts.
