News Release                                For Immediate Release

Sidney, BC: – On Saturday June 21st, 2014,  from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Sidney Fire Hall, Sidney Councilor Kenny Podmore and the Volunteer Firefighters will be fitting license plate holders branded for each of the Peninsula municipalities.  Ten years ago, on behalf of the Foundation, Kenny created unique designs for each municipality, raising more than $7,000 for projects at the hospital.

“Many people on the peninsula would like to support our fundraising efforts by purchasing a set of license plate holders, but don’t know how to put them on their car.  I wanted to help by providing this small but important service for the community,” says project originator Kenny Podmore.  “When the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation and I originated this idea almost ten years ago, I spent several Saturday mornings selling the license plate holders and putting them on cars for the purchasers.  You’d be surprised how many people would like a little help.  This time, the Sidney Volunteer Firefighters are assisting.  At the same time, they will be hosting a barbeque to raise some funds for the Centennial celebrations of the Sidney Volunteer Fire Department on August 2nd.”

“We’re very grateful to Councillor Podmore for leading the charge and helping people to express pride in our community”, says SPHF Board President Gordon Benn.   With this one project, we are acknowledging the importance of community and making people more aware of the needs of the hospital.”

Benefiting two organizations on the peninsula – the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation and the Saanich Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, the license plate holders are available for a donation of $10 per pair.  In addition to fittings at the Sidney Fire Hall, they are available in a variety of locations, including the offices of both the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation and the Saanich Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, the Town of Sidney and Districts of North and Central Saanich municipal offices, the tourist information centre on Beacon Avenue and directly from both Councillor Podmore and Sharon Bolton of Verico Select Mortgage (9785 Fourth St in Sidney).  If you can’t make it to any of these locations, license plate holders will also be available at the Sidney Saturday Market and the Thursday night indoor Market, (upstairs from Odyssia Restaurant at 9785 Fifth St). Finally, local entrepreneur Cheryl Young will be offering them at the Cocktail Parties for “Thunder Down Under” (at the Mary Winspear Centre) June 19 and 20.
